U.S. Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions 1990-2025

U.S. greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions for 2020 was 5,505,180.89, a 8.85% decline from 2019.
  • U.S. greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions for 2019 was 6,039,739.49, a 1.87% decline from 2018.
  • U.S. greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions for 2018 was 6,154,645.79, a 3.48% increase from 2017.
  • U.S. greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions for 2017 was 5,947,835.05, a 0.92% decline from 2016.
Total greenhouse gas emissions in kt of CO2 equivalent are composed of CO2 totals excluding short-cycle biomass burning (such as agricultural waste burning and Savannah burning) but including other biomass burning (such as forest fires, post-burn decay, peat fires and decay of drained peatlands), all anthropogenic CH4 sources, N2O sources and F-gases (HFCs, PFCs and SF6).
